It’s soccer time again! Saturday, March 21, 2009, was Roy High Schools Soccer team fundraiser. A 3v3 tournament. Kenrik, Devyn & Jarom all participated. Kenrik was asked by Dena, one of Lindsey and Brians friend to play on a team with 3 girls. They wanted at least one guy who could run who had recently played on a soccer team. Because Kenrik is not on the soccer team this year do to the Liver laceration in November, he was a good candidate.
Jarom was asked to play with a few of his friends from his Vinyl Guys indoor soccer team. Devyn’s coach split his team in half. It was a fun tournament! Unfortunately I forgot the camera! The day was full of go, go, go and no thought was put on pictures.
Each soccer game has two 10 minute halves. The fields are shortened. About the size of a U6 field with small little popup goals. There is a small box infront of the goal that is considered no mans land. If you block a ball inside the box or go inside with the ball then it’s a penalty and the other team gets to shoot the ball . It’s really quite fun to watch. Passing skills and low kicks are an advantage. And a goal doesn’t count unless the ball has already passed the half line.
Jarom’s team lost 1 tied 1 and won 1. Devyn lost the first game, won the next 2 and lost the last one.
Kenrik’s team had a lot of fun. They won their 1st game, lost the 2nd and won the 3rd game. In his last game, the other team only had 2 players so Dena switched teams. They had a good time laughing and running. During the game Dena said to Kenrik “ Kenrik, you said you would let me make a goal”. He said “ Go ahead”. She then picked up the ball, ran to the goal, put the ball down and kicked. She Missed! They were all rolling with laughter. The ball went over the goal.
Amongst all that fun, I left to take kale to his recertification referee test. We drove to Brigham City for the test. And it was worth it cause he passed! Now he’ll be able to ref sidelines again this year. He makes $16 a game. Kenrik also passed his test a few weeks before so he can center ref and make $30 a game. Hats off to both of them. It’s not always so easy when you have parents of players hollering at you. So all you soccer parents out there. Before you yell at the ref, you need to take a referee course and be certified yourself. There are a lot of technicalities that most of us don’t know about. I know I have to watch myself as well and think to myself, “What if that ref was my son?”
During this exciting day of go, go, go, Bam was with the ward Priest Quorum riding the bike trails at Antelope Island. There were 3 men and 2 boys who went on the adventure. And adventure it was. They tried out a new trail that was made. Little did they know it was not groomed for bikes. Many horses had been on the trail and so there were big holes and dips everywhere. They held on to their handlebars for dear life. Both young men ended up with blisters on their hands! It’s a good thing Bam went along. One of the boys got a flat right off and Bam was prepared with the tools to patch it. He ended up using his spare tube because the bike had more then one hole. They were all grateful he came prepared.
